Partnering with health professionals in a Collaborative Care Team
Welcome doctors, psychologists, counsellors, physiotherapists and dedicated healthcare providers.
As a Functional Medicine Certified Health (FMCHC), my expertise in behaviour and lifestyle change can support your medical practice, your patients and their families.
Increasing numbers of doctors report feeling overwhelmed and burned-out. When medical organisations add a health coach to their collaborative care team, the health of the patients improve, revenue increases, and the well-being of the providers themselves improves.
-
Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA) is the first accredited functional medicine health coach training program.
FMCA-trained health coaches guide patients to optimum wellness using functional medicine, functional nutrition, Mind-Body Medicine, and Positive Psychology Coaching.
Health coaches are trained in helping patients make healthy lifestyle behavior changes. When cross trained in both functional medicine and health coaching techniques, this qualifies them to partner with primary care providers to serve as the implementers of the patient/provider co-developed therapeutic plan.
The UK and International Health Coaching Association (UKIHCA) is a leading professional body for Health Coaches in the UK and internationally.
Members of the UKIHCA are fully qualified and credentialed professionals who have satisfied robust professional standards and work within a defined Scope of Practice.
-
Health coaches extend the provider’s reach by offering individualized guidance and support in implementing therapeutic plans, addressing barriers, and working through the day-to-day challenges that arise as patients continue on their journey toward health and well-being.
-
Health coaches do not take the place of a medical doctor, mental health or nutrition professional.
The following is OUTSIDE the coaching scope of practice:
Diagnosing medical or psychiatric conditions
Developing treatment plans
Providing psychotherapy
Ordering and interpreting lab testing
Recommending supplements
As a health coach I listen, ask questions and support clients by helping them mobilize their internal strengths and external resources. I provide guidance by clarifying the physician’s diagnosis and plan, and referring to resources from recognised authorities and evidence-based research.
